Analgesic
An analgesic is a painkiller drug. They
are acetaminophen, anti-inflammatory drugs and opioid drugs
such as morphine and opium. They aren’t anaesthetics. Known
analgesic:
Parcematol
NSAIDs
Cox-2 inhibitors
Opiates and morphinomimetics
flupirtine
Analgesics are often used in pain
management, a branch of medicine using interdisciplinary
approach to improve the quality of life of those with
chronic pain. Most long term pain treatment include
pharmacologic measures like analgesics, tricyclic
antidepressants, anticonvulsants, interventional procedures,
physical therapy, physical exercicse, psychological measures
and may even include biofeedback and cognitive therapies.
Pain management is getting much more
attention since it is taking into account all the possible
aspects of a person illness.
The World Health Organization as even
design and recommend a pain ladder initially used in cancer
pain treatment but is now suggested in general practices for
dealing with analgesia for any type of pain.
